There has been a large rise in clients lightening tattoos for a new tattoo. It can take as little as 1-3 treatments to lighten a tattoo for a cover-up. Why lighten a tattoo before getting a cover up? More often than not, we have people come in with cover-ups where the underneath tattoo has started to show through. Lightening a tattoo first, gives the artist a fresher canvas to work with. Therefore, a cover-up won’t scream cover up by being too large or too dark. Before considering a cover-up tattoo, speak with your artist about whether lightening the tattoo will help the process. If the tattoo is the problem, and not the location, consider lightening your tattoo for a cover-up.
